Intro to Positive Psychology

Course Description

The Intro to Positive Psychology course is a 16-session training class that provides coaches with a strong theoretical understanding of the coaching profession. In this course, coaches will explore the foundational aspects of positive psychology, emphasizing strengths, virtues, and factors contributing to a meaningful life. Topics cover positive emotions, strengths identification, growth mindset, and the role of mindfulness and resilience. Participants will gain practical techniques to enhance clients’ well-being and personal development. The course aims to seamlessly integrate positive psychology into coaching practices for a positive and empowering coaching experience. Prerequisite: Must have successfully completed the 1.0 training program.

Throughout your training, you will:

  • Develop a deeper understanding of the positive psychology framework of coaching
  • Understand the roots of positive psychology theories 
  • Explore positive psychology topics, such as PERMA and Grit
  • Understand how positive psychology plays a role in coaching
  • Learn new coaching tools based in positive psychology

Course Format

The class will meet once a week for two hours, at your designated class time. Each class is broken into three main parts:

  1. Discussion: The first half of class includes an open discussion on the chapter you read to prepare for the course. Your trainer will answer questions and provide additional insight. 
  2. Case Study. You will be given a case study to review with your small group. You will discuss how the positive psychology theory or strategy can help with the case study. 
  3. Practice. If a tool is discussed, time may be available to practice with a partner.

  • Authentic Happiness by Martin Seligman
  • Optional: A Primer in Positive Psychology by Chris Peterson

Additional Courses 

  1. Health Board Life Coaching: This 8-session training course is designed for coaches who want to develop specific skills for working in the health and wellness fields. Participants will gain a deep understanding of the intersection between coaching and health. Prerequisite: Wellness Specialization.
  2. Team Coaching: This 8-session coach training course encourages team insights and offers team-building strategies for improving overall team effectiveness. In this training, students learn the role of the coach as a facilitator of positive team dynamics, equipping coaches with the skills to foster a culture of trust, communication, and collective achievement.
  3. Relationship Life Coaching: This 16-session training course offers hands-on strategies for coaches to help clients work through any relationship challenges that may arise. Coaches will explore dynamic approaches to address communication breakdowns, resolve conflicts, and foster healthy connections.
