Season One · Episode 1
Ideal Client Profiles
Twelve coaches. Eight episodes. One Top Coach.
The competition starts where every coaching practice starts: knowing exactly who you serve.
In this episode
The competition opens as twelve coaches meet their trainers, Coach Jantell and Coach Dubs, and their judge, Hayden Lee. The first business challenge is the foundation of every coaching practice: the Ideal Client Profile.
As Coach Dubs explains, coaching is an invisible product, and most people still don't really know what a coach does or what coaching can do for them.
That is why every practice starts with an Ideal Client Profile. It captures the dreams, pain points, past attempts, and goals of the people a coach wants to serve, in their own words. Those words become the website copy and the marketing, so the coach can describe their craft in language their ideal clients already use.
The client benefits just as much. When someone reads a description of their own goals and frustrations, they can see what coaching would do for them, and they arrive at their first session knowing exactly why they came.
For this first challenge, each coach wrote Ideal Client Profile documents suited to their business and interviewed three real people who might fit that profile. Every interview is worth up to 15 points and centers on three questions:
- What would prompt you to hire a coach?
- Where do you most often get stuck?
- What would reaching your most important goals mean for your life?
In the coaching round, the coaches coach each other on their own Ideal Client Profiles. Hayden's standard is to coach the person, not the problem. Information questions gather facts about the situation. Transformation questions reveal how the client sees the world and what matters to them.
The episode closes with the first elimination round and the first brilliancy prize, which protects the week's top coach from elimination for two weeks.
