Leadership Highlight: Matt Welch

November 03, 2020 by Coach Training EDU

Meet Matt Welch, CTEDU Director of Admissions!

If you’re curious about professional coaching, interested in a career transition, or want to strengthen and deepen your relationship with others, Matt can help you explore what’s possible and guide you towards a path you’re excited about.

In addition to being our Director of Admissions, he’s also a professional runner! Matt competed in the US Marathon Olympic Trials in February and is now training to run a mile in under 4 minutes.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Q: We’re all so curious, Matt, as a professional distance runner, what’s training like for you?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Matt: It’s not as glamorous as it sounds! I spend most of my free time running or preparing to run (e.g., doing yoga, visualizing success, etc.) and race about 6-12 times a year (in a normal year) in events ranging from 1 mile to Marathon (26.2 miles). I train about 15-20 hours a week. I’m fortunate to have a job and a company that supports my running goals! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Up next is my attempt to break 4-minutes in the mile!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Q: What is your favorite part about working as the Director of Admissions?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

A: My favorite part about my role at CTEDU is meeting people from around the world, from all walks of life. I’m usually the first person from our team to connect with a prospective coach. It’s humbling to hear stories of struggle, resilience and passion to make a difference in the world. The growth I witness throughout the admissions process, through our coach training and as coaches transition into professional coaching roles is incredibly rewarding & beautiful.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Q: What motivates you each day?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Matt: Every day I’m motivated to make progress towards the goals I establish for myself. I design a plan for improvement for most areas of my life (professionally, personal growth, community, etc.) Right now, my BIG DREAM that keeps me focused is the goal of running a mile in under 4 minutes. I’ve been a competitive runner most of my life, but I’ve never trained specifically for the mile distance. It’s a lofty mission, but I’ve been enjoying the journey!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
