Continuing Coach Education (CCE)

Congratulations! You’ve done the work, acquired your coaching hours, put in time with a coach mentor, and you’ve finally achieved your ICF coaching credential.

This is an excellent first step in your journey to building a thriving coaching practice or implementing coaching with your company.

Now comes the next step: maintaining your credential for years to come.

ICF Coaching Credentials - Three - Year Renewal

Your ICF coaching credential is valid for three years, at which point it will need to be renewed. During those three years, you will need to keep up with the advances and changes in the coaching industry through Continuing Coach Education (CCE).

What is CCE?

Continuing Coach Education (CCE) is an important aspect of the coach credential renewal process.

Regardless of credential level, every coach must complete at least 40 hours of coach training in the three years between receiving their coach credential and their time of renewal. These 40 hours (sometimes referred to as units) can only be obtained through an ICF CCE-approved training program. Failure to obtain these hours can result in the expiration of your coaching credential.

Types of CCE Continuing Coach Education

testing

Core Competencies

Of the 40 hours required for CCEs, 24 hours must be in Core Competencies. Continuing Coaching Education in Core Competencies includes communication, active listening, goal setting, and managing accountability. At CTEDU, many of our programs will fulfill CCEs in this Core Competencies category.

testing

Coaching Ethics

The ICF requires that a minimum of three of the 24 Core Competencies Continuing Coaching Education Units (CCEUs) be in coaching ethics. This is offered through ICF’s free online course, or you can find ethics-specific training through ICF CCE-accredited programs or ICF Chapter events.

testing

Resource Development

This category encompasses anything that falls outside of the Core Competencies. Professional development topics such as business building, niche building, new coaching tools, assessment certifications, etc., can account for up to 16 of the 40 CCE hours.

testing

Mentor Coaching

An additional ten Mentor Coaching hours are required on top of the Mentor Coaching hours from your initial certification. These ten mentor hours can be counted toward the 24 Core Competency hours. Three of these mentor hours need to be completed one-on-one. At CTEDU, we offer two pathways for obtaining your Mentor Coaching hours for renewal.

PPC Coach Pathway: In this pathway, you can hire one of CTEDU’s PCC coaches to coach mentor you one-on-one through all ten sessions. Cost: $750

GMC + PPC Coach Pathway*: In this pathway, you will join a GMC course and meet with one of our PCC coaches for the three required one-on-one sessions. Cost: $525

*This is only offered to alumni coaches seeking renewal.

Maintaining ICF Coaching Credentials
