January 04, 2024 by Coach Training EDU

Meet Danielle Flores Lopez, a CTEDU graduate and Certified Academic Life Coach!

Danielle serves as the Interim Assistant Dean of DEI and the Director of Academic Advising and Student Success Initiatives in the College of Natural Science at Michigan State University. She is also a facilitator for Cultural Competency and Organizational Change DEI workshops. Additionally, she is the co-founder of Mujer a Mujer, a women’s empowerment group. Flores Lopez is a first-generation college student who earned her PhD in Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education (HALE) from the College of Education at Michigan State University.

When speaking about the difference between Academic Life Coaching and Academic Advising, Daneille says, “It's hard sometimes to fit so much in, of what the student is asking, what we need to share with students. And a lot of times we view the advisor as that expert on that major or the information the student is seeking. When I move towards coaching, one thing that I really like about it is that the student moves to that expert area, that the student is the one driving the conversation.”
