Much of science looks at how to take subjective experience, for example the awe one might feel looking over a vast and beautiful view, and codify an objective measurement. Science, and especially positive psychology lately, thrive on making measurements of what is intrinsically difficult to measure. An objective expert is the one who is able to take an accurate measurement, gather the apt and meaningful information, and provide a useful and valuable course of action. Life coaching tosses objectivity out of the window in favor of empowering a client’s opinion and insights, or in other words, coaching embraces all of a client’s being, including his or her ability, even strength, of being subjective.
How does trusting your subjective experience empower you? (And how does it get in the way?)
