One of the secrets to productivity is finding a way to tap into flow - the mental state of being completely absorbed in the activity in front of us. This mental state feels exhilarating and many people mention feeling as though they’ve lost time. The trick is finding a way to get into flow. While there are a number of tips for entering a flow state, one of the keys is to be sure that the task or activity balances challenge with your abilities. If the task is too challenging or too far out of your current abilities, you’re likely to struggle or give up, which will prevent you from entering a state of flow. If the task isn’t challenging enough or underutilizes your abilities, you’ll likely feel bored. When you’re able to find that sweet spot of challenge and ability, flow is often much easier to achieve.
