We often talk about being there for people when things are not going right, but we often forget to show similar attention to people when things are going right. When someone jumps to share good news, we’re less likely to set down our distractions and invest our full attention into them. Research shows, however, that this kind of behavior can deteriorate our relationships with others. When someone shares good news, it’s best to follow this formula: Eliminate distractions + express excitement + ask a follow up question or two. This simple formula will help reinforce your relationship with others.
