A coaching credential. Currently, the International Coach Federation (ICF) is the leading body for coaching standards and credentials. They certify individual coaches, as well as approve and accredit coach training programs and organizations. Part of becoming a professional coach is building your training and coaching hours so that you can become certified through the ICF.
An initial target audience and niche. New coaches often flounder and make it harder to establish a practice by not focusing on a specific audience. Saying that you are a coach for “anyone”, and on any topic, doesn’t exclude anyone. The problem is that it doesn’t really include any either. Picking a target audience, like students or executives, is a smart step when establishing your coaching practice.
